If there are accessible spaces beneath the lift shaft floor (e.g. cellars, underground car parks or passageways), it must be ensured that, even in the event of a suspension rope failure, no component falls unchecked onto the shaft floor and pierces the ceiling.
The implementation varies depending on the type of lift:
In the case of small goods lifts, the car is not designed for the transport of persons or for entry, due to its dimensions and construction.
- Basic configuration: As standard, small goods lifts do not have a safety catch on the car.
- Solution for accessible spaces:
- If there is an accessible space beneath the shaft, the car is fitted with a safety catch.
- To minimise the effort involved, we prefer to use a chain drive without a counterweight in such cases. This eliminates the need to provide additional support for a counterweight. A further advantage is that, as the chain runs between the guide rails in place of the counterweight, the shaft dimensions generally remain unchanged compared with a design featuring a drive sheave.
